Critical Role Season Four Unveils the Warriors Party

Ever since the premiere of the fourth campaign, fresh DM Brennan Lee Mulligan has kept viewers on edge with rich lore, a colorful mix of heroes, and a thrilling plot featuring divine entities, demons, and malevolent powers growing in strength within the city.

Note: Spoilers for the third episode of Campaign 4 are included.

The Warrior Group Revealed

The third episode concluded with a huge suspense moment and presented the initial group of adventurers who will separate from the central cast to begin their independent quest, apart from the additional parties.

The Soldiers table features Teor Pridesire (played by the voice actor), Thimble (Laura), Tyranny (Whitney Moore), the cleric (Sam), and Kattigan (Robbie).

Why Split the Party?

Given a large ensemble, it was obvious from the beginning that having everyone at one table would be impossible.

Hence, the initial installments of the new season serve as an Overture, intertwining the individual narratives before dividing into three separate parties: Warriors, Schemers, and Seekers.

The Nature of the Soldiers Table

As described by the DM, the Soldiers table is for adventurers who are drawn to a traditionally charged fight-heavy story mode where non-violent answers are few and far between.

At first glance, characters like the reluctant priest the cleric might look mismatched, but the developments of the third episode demonstrate why these five characters are best suited for the Soldiers table.

Motivations for Departure

For one thing, the team knows exactly where to go next after a violent first encounter with the enemy group.

Casimir of Thjazi Fang—whose demise started the story’s plot—exploited the enemy for his personal gain, breaking into the hidden lair, attacking the character, and taking all the magical artifacts to sell off.

The traitor then settled his obligations and ran away to a Halovar stronghouse in the remote area, above the city, with Teor’s brother hot on his heels.

Character Drivers

Additionally, each adventurer has a personal reason to exit Dol-Makjar:

  • The rogue, as the companion and best friend, wants retribution.
  • The knowledgeable figure is familiar with Timmony and cautions that it is a dangerous place.
  • Tyranny and Wicander, having disobeyed his relatives’ demands to eliminate the target and instead freed him, have no other options.
  • But, their reputation as prominent individuals in the influential clan could assist the party access areas they typically wouldn’t be able to.
  • Furthermore, The grateful character vowed a eternal obligation to The savior for his rescue and will now accompany him anywhere.

Fugitives

In addition, all of them are wanted by the powers that rule Dol-Makjar for a multiple motives, making lingering locally no longer safe:

  • Thimble and Kattigan are recognized lawbreakers.
  • The strong figure and Wicander turned against the influential house and the legion of demons they are aligned with.
  • The target is wanted dead by the clan.

This means them few options but to travel to the remote area in quest for the antagonist.

Upcoming Developments

From the recent installment’s post-show segment, we discover that the Soldiers table will be absent the following episode, leaving the remaining eight players to assemble the Explorers and Planners parties.

Viewers can expect finding out which players will be assigned to which table in Campaign 4’s final introductory chapter, streaming live on October 24.
